The Andalusia region is well worth discovering, and we’ve fallen in love with all its towns and villages. If you’re wondering what to do in Andalusia in Spain, follow this article on our travel blog as we give you all our tips and good addresses! Off you go.
Andalusia is a fairly touristy and sunny region, so we advise you to visit out of season to avoid overcrowding and high temperatures. The months of April/May/June and September/October are ideal if you’re looking for mild weather and a bit of heat. We went in the middle of winter, between late December and early January. We thus discovered Andalusia with very few tourists and with temperatures that were already very pleasant (up to 22 degrees in some towns).
Andalusia is located on the southern coast of Spain. You’ll find a wide variety of landscapes in this region. Between agricultural plains, hills, cities and white villages. You’re bound to find what you’re looking for in Andalusia, believe us!
Below you’ll find our map of Andalusia. You’ll find our must-sees for discovering Andalusia in Spain, and you’ll see it’s a wonderful trip! We recommend renting a car so you can reach the little white villages and have more freedom in your itinerary.
The incredible city of Seville in Andalusia was one of our biggest crushes. Expect to fall under the spell of the Plaza de España, its architectural installation Las Setas, its Cathedral, or simply its atmosphere and sunny terraces. Don’t forget to book the Alcazar in advance! See our article dedicated to Seville for all our top addresses and must-sees. If you want to reach Andalusia by plane or train from France, Seville (or Malaga) is the place to be.
Ronda, seemingly suspended on top of a mountain, is full of surprises and discoveries. Start by admiring the bridge, named Puente Nuevo, from several spots, then set off to discover the town’s cobbled streets and pretty squares. It was a real treat for us, and we hope it will be for you too! In our blog post on Ronda, we give you our top tips for restaurants and hotels, as well as advice on parking in this mostly pedestrianized town;
It’s impossible to answer the question “What to do in Andalusia?” without mentioning Cordoba! This city is clearly worth the detour and will quickly join the top of your favorite cities during this trip to Spain. Although it’s world-famous for its mosque-cathedral, known as the Mezquita, we loved the atmosphere of the city and its narrow streets and Alcazar even more. And don’t forget to cross the Roman bridge for a very photogenic view of Cordoba, even better at sunset! So, off to Cordoba?
The city of Granada is a must for any trip to Andalusia. Cradled in the hollow of the Sierra Nevada, you’ll discover a unique city. It’s best known for its Alhambra, which we recommend you book well in advance of your visit. Tickets go fast, too fast! Each of Granada’s different districts has its own style, and we recommend spending at least 2 days there to have enough time to explore the city.
Here are two Andalusian destinations that we haven’t yet had the chance to visit, but which are right at the top of our list. The city of Malaga looks to be an impressive blend of development and history. When visiting Malaga, don’t miss the Colomares Castle located just 10km from the city. The Caminito del Rey is a vertiginous hike in the heart of Los Ardales Park. Well-known for its many footbridges and steep walls, a must-do once in a lifetime!
Andalusia is of course famous for its white villages. There are several itineraries dedicated solely to the white villages of Andalusia. We recommend including in your itinerary the village of Setenil de las Bodegas, a real favorite for us. This troglodyte village with its stone-built houses and stores is well worth a visit! If you want to discover the white villages of Andalusia, we suggest you check out our selection of the most beautiful of them.
There are several ways to get to Andalusia. If you’re coming by plane, the main airports are Malaga and Seville, while by train you’ll need to go via Madrid. If you’re coming by car from France, you can start your road trip in Granada, for example.
If you’d like to rent a car on your trip to discover Andalusia, we recommend you take a look at the RentalCars website. This will enable you to find the best prices and conditions for your rental depending on your departure city.
In order to find the best hotels and benefit from the best conditions (security, cancellation…) we go almost exclusively through Booking.com for our trips. We recommend that you take a look at the available hotels before you leave. You can filter them according to their ratings. There are plenty of recent customer reviews, so there are no unpleasant surprises when you’re traveling!
If you want to get ideas for activities to do on your vacation and want to book in advance, we’d also recommend taking a look at the GetYourGuide website. This will give you an overview of the activities on offer in your destination, so you don’t have to wait until you get there to book your places.
We hope the tips and good addresses on our travel blog will help you know what to do in Andalusia, in Spain!
