What to do in Eze in Provence on the French Riviera?
Last update : 02/10/2023
During your vacation on the French Riviera, would you like to visit and stroll through a small perched village in Provence, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in France? Come and discover Eze village, located between Nice and Menton. Just 12 km from Nice, if you’re there on vacation, definitely plan a half-day visit to Eze Village. Perched on its cliff, this picturesque village is quite touristy in high season, but clearly worth the detour. We found it a charming change of scenery! You’ll also have the opportunity to discover the famous Jardin Exotique d’Eze. In our article, discover the must-sees and good restaurant and hotel addresses for your visit to Eze village!
Eze Village in Provence, what to see, what to do?
Old Eze
The narrow cobbled streets of Eze village will take you on a journey back in time. The atmosphere of this medieval village in Provence is breathtaking. Enter the town through the huge fortified gate and follow the main path. Pass under the arches of the stone houses and discover the little stores and stalls. Craftsmanship is at the very heart of Eze Village. You’ll find charming stalls selling textiles, souvenirs, local specialties, handcrafted jewelry… And small art galleries too.
Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church
We loved the hues of the baroque church, built in the 18th century. It stands proudly in the middle of the village, with its majestic clock. The stones needed to build it would have had to be brought in on men’s backs… Knowing that the village is 400 meters above the sea, one can only admire the achievement!
Fragonnard factory
The famous perfume and cosmetics brand is based in Eze Village. If you wish, you can take a guided tour of their perfume, soap and cosmetics factory. Every day from 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., discover the secrets of this legendary brand. Located at the foot of the village, the factory is easy to get to, and the workshops are said to be impressive. We didn’t have time to take the tour, but on our return to Eze we’ll be stopping by!
Visit the exotic garden at Eze in Provence
The exotic garden at Eze in Provence is a path perched 400 meters from the sea that takes you to discover more than 100 species of exotic plants. Admiring the cacti and succulents with a view of the red stone roofs and the sea is well worth the detour. We loved this garden and really recommend you visit it when you’re in Eze Village.
Considered a natural open-air garden, the exotic garden also allows you to admire the 17 sculptures by artist Jean-Philippe Richard. These feminine stone figures even have first names. A visit to the exotic garden at Eze in Provence costs €6 per person. For us, it’s the must-visit spot when visiting Eze Village!
Eze Village in Provence, where to eat?
Eze Village is renowned for having excellent hotels and restaurants, but not very accessible… For those who wish to have an exceptional meal, go to the Chateau d’Eza or the Chèvre d’Or, on reservation of course.
Le Pinnocchio
For those of you who, like us, are looking for a nice, accessible address for lunch in the village of Eze, we recommend Le Pinnocchio, which is located right next to the Jardin Exotique. This restaurant offers cool Mediterranean and Italian cuisine and has the advantage of being open over a fairly wide range of hours.
Food’Eze
Another, more atypical address for eating on the go is Food Truck Food’Eze, located on the road between Nice and the perched village of Eze. We didn’t have lunch there, but we did stop for a drink. The view is simply spectacular over the suspended village!
Eze Village in Provence, where to sleep?
Les Terrasses d’Eze village
If you want to try out a hotel with an exceptional view in Eze village, Les Terrasses d’Eze is the hotel for you. Located right next to the village, this hotel and spa is renowned for the quality of its service and its incredible setting. It’s also very close to the “tête de chien de la Turbie” where you can admire the view over Monaco.
How to get to Eze Village
When you come to Eze by car, you’ll notice that there are very few parking spaces! We chose to park at the parking lot, which is a little way from the village and offers very regular shuttle buses. So we parked without a hitch and reached the village of Eze in 5 minutes by shuttle bus. The cost of parking at the parking lot is €6, including return shuttle service and free entry to the Jardin Exotique d’Eze (which costs €6 per person). A great deal if you’re planning to visit the Jardin Exotique! Like us, you may even be lucky enough to have your driver give you a brief history of the village.
