Every year, thousands of travelers from all over the world converge on the famous tulip fields to experience an incomparable natural spectacle. And among the must-see destinations for this enchanting experience is the picturesque town of Lisse, located just a few kilometers from Amsterdam. In this article, we give you all our tips and must-see places to make the most of the tulip fields in Amsterdam in 2024.
If you’re looking for a cheap hotel in Amsterdam, we recommend taking a look at the Moxy Amsterdam Schiphol. The hotel is stylish, comfortable and close to Schiphol Airport. A 15-minute drive will take you to Keukenhof and Holland’s best tulip fields.
The tulip festival in Amsterdam, Holland, is an experience to be had at least once in a lifetime! If you’re visiting Amsterdam for 3 days between mid-March and mid-April, we recommend a trip to the Keukenhof flower garden. Accessible by train from Amsterdam (allow 50 minutes), this park boasts an impressive variety of tulips.
More than 7 million bulbs attract a huge number of tourists every year. We visited the park in April, and the only thing we can recommend is that you come as soon as it opens (i.e. from 8.00 a.m.). The park quickly becomes overrun with tourists, and the experience is severely impacted. We therefore advise you to come when the park opens and to leave around 10.30-11.00 a.m. to discover the town of Lisse and its tulip fields. To discover tulip fields, some are accessible and open, others have installed barriers to block access. If you want to take photos of tulip fields without disturbing the harvest, we recommend an address just after the article!
While strolling near Keukenhof Park, we recommend a visit to The Tulip Barn. A short hour’s stroll through the tulip fields of Lisse separates these two addresses. At The Tulip Barn, you’ll enjoy a beautifully landscaped garden. If you want to take some great photos, you’ll see that everything has been done here to make your life easier! Please note that admission costs €7 per person. On site, you’ll also find a nice bar for lunch or coffee, as well as toilets. We found the atmosphere very pleasant and the photo spots rather well thought-out. We recommend 👌🏻
To see the tulip fields in full bloom around Amsterdam, the best time is usually from mid-April to early May. It’s during this period that the tulips are at their peak and you can expect to see the most vibrant colors in the flower fields. However, the exact period can vary slightly from year to year, depending on weather conditions. We therefore advise you to keep an eye on tulip flowering reports or updates provided by local flower parks and tourist organizations when planning your visit. As a general rule, we recommend visiting the area around Amsterdam during mid-April to have the best chance of admiring the tulip fields in all their splendor.
The Tulip Festival is an annual event celebrating the tulip blossom in Holland, particularly in the region around Amsterdam. The Tulip Festival 2024 starts as early as March 21 and ends on May 12.
