When we wonder where to go in August in the sun, we often think of going far away to get a change of scenery and escape the crowds of tourists in France. But did you know that there are many sunny regions without too many people just waiting for you during this period? These include the Jura, the Pyrenees or the Tarn et Garonne. We had the opportunity to discover the Tarn et Garonne region at this time of year, and we took our eyes off it. For example, you can go kayaking in the Aveyron Gorges before taking a trip to the market in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val. We really fell in love with the region, as there were very few tourists and we were able to enjoy the greenery and fresh air. We recommend it!
Have you ever thought of discovering Montenegro? This still relatively untouristy country has plenty of surprises in store; we visited during the summer of 2022 and were won over. This destination could well be the answer to your “where to go in August” question, without too many tourists! The country isn’t huge, but it offers great diversity from south to north.
In the south of Montenegro, you can visit the Bay of Kotor, which offers pretty fortified villages by the sea, numerous café terraces and bars where you can settle down to sip spritzs in honor of the vacations! In the north of Montenegro, the mountainous Durmitor is a little more confidential, with some lovely hikes. The weather is mild and there are few tourists, which we think is great! Head to our complete guide to Montenegro for all the info.
Albania is a country we still know little about, having only visited the Theth region during our trip to Montenegro. During our brief stay in Albania, we found the people adorable and the country incredible. The weather is mild, between 20 and 30 degrees depending on the region. You’ll find incredible beaches like Tirana, Vlora and Ksamil. If you’re wondering where to go in August in the sun without too many tourists, Albania seems like a perfect destination! So, are you ready for a swim on the Adriatic coast?
Make way for a destination that will blow your mind landscape-wise! Visiting Switzerland in August means discovering the country under the best weather conditions, between 25 and 30 degrees. How about visiting Austria in August? Although this is the best time to discover this destination climate-wise, expect a few showers anyway. We don’t know this country yet, but we can’t wait to visit! Here are a few ideas of places to discover in Austria in August: the capital Vienna looks incredible, the Tyrol region is more than appealing to us, the lovely village of Hallstatt, Salzburg, Mozart’s baroque city or Lake Wolfgang… It’s hard to decide where to start! In any case, one thing’s for sure: visiting Austria in August seems to be a sure bet.
Head for Slovenia for your August vacation! This month is one of the best for discovering this pretty country, as the weather will be mild, allowing you to have pretty lights for your discoveries. We don’t know Slovenia yet, but we’re very attracted by the cities of Ljubljana and Bled, Lake Bohinj and Triglav National Park, for example. It’s a destination where you can get away from it all with its wide-open spaces, and discover places that are far from touristy and crowded. Worth a try!
We’re dreaming of discovering the beautiful city of Stockholm and we figure that to answer your “where to go in August” question, this could be a great idea, especially if you’re short on vacation time. The city of Stockholm in Sweden can be visited in just a few days and will give you a complete change of scene. It’s around 20/25 degrees Celsius at this time of year, so it’s not too hot for those who don’t like high temperatures. To visit Stockholm, start with the old town of Gamla Stan, and if you’re looking for a breath of fresh air, head for the island of Skeppsholmen.
Going to the Azores in August could turn out to be an excellent idea! A little point about the weather: it’s a good time to go, with temperatures of around 20/23 degrees. Although the climate in this archipelago is temperate all year round, August is likely to bring less rain. Which of the 9 islands in this archipelago in the heart of the Atlantic would you choose? Will you start with the best-known, Sao Miguel? Or a more confidential one like Corvo? It’s the perfect destination if you’re passionate about green nature. Each island has its own advantages, from flowers to volcanoes, and you’re in for a real treat!
The period stretching from May to August is the ideal time to discover the wonders of Madeira Island. Bali is one of those destinations we’ve been dying to get to for a long time! Going to Bali in August is the ideal season for sunshine and little rain.
