We start our selection of destinations for where to go in March in the sun with the Costa del Sol. The Costa del Sol is a coastal region in southern Spain, in the province of Malaga. Located south of Andalusia, this destination is, as its name suggests, known for its fine sandy beaches and pleasant year-round climate. With average temperatures of between 20 and 25°, the Costa del Sol is a popular tourist destination, perfect for those in search of sunshine. It’s also known for its lively seaside resorts, such as Marbella and Fuengirola. And charming fishing villages like Estepona and Nerja. The Costa del Sol also boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, so it’s the perfect place if you’re looking for a place to spend March in the sun without being too far from France.
Sardinia is an Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s the second largest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily, which we’ll look at next. Sardinia is famous for its sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. It’s also known for its culture and traditions, with many festivals and events taking place throughout the year. Although it may still be a little early for you to go swimming, March marks the return of a rather mild climate throughout the island.
Temperatures generally range between 15 and 20 degrees, and the sun is out almost every day. If you absolutely must go swimming in Sardinia, we recommend waiting until May. If you come to Sardinia in March, you won’t encounter too many tourists and you’ll enjoy mild temperatures during your trip.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, located just south of Italy. It is world-famous for its diverse landscapes, as well as its many historical and archaeological sites. If you’re a history lover, Sicily is the ideal destination for you. You can explore ancient ruins and historic sites in Taormina, Agrigento and Syracuse. Not to be missed are the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and the Teatro Greco in Taormina, an ancient Greek theater still used for performances. The weather in Sicily in March is favorable, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures generally around 18°. As with Sardinia, visiting Sicily in March is an opportunity to discover the destination without the hordes of tourists, which can be very pleasant.
When you’re looking for where to go in March in the sun, it’s impossible not to think of Malta. This destination boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year, no less! The island boasts breathtaking beaches and swimming spots, which is a real plus when you’re looking to fill up on vitamin D in the middle of March. For us, Malta is an ideal destination to discover from March to June. After June, temperatures are generally quite high and there are far too many tourists on the island. So for us, March is an excellent compromise for visiting Malta while making the most of it.
March is an excellent choice for coming to discover the diverse destination that is Morocco. Indeed, in March temperatures are mild throughout the country, with averages between 20° and 25°. This makes it the ideal time of year to discover Morocco’s many landscapes, from the sea to the mountains, via the desert and the Atlas mountains. Morocco gives you the impression of visiting several countries in a single trip, and we believe this is the destination’s greatest strength. Among all these landscapes, those of southern Morocco are particularly beautiful. If you’re looking for a seaside resort for your March vacation, we recommend Taghazout, just 30 kilometers from Agadir.
Namibia is very often a trip coup de coeur. March marks the end of the rainy season, which is perfect for discovering this destination. Kaokoland is an easy region to visit in March, with its desert landscapes and Himbas villages. In the Namib Desert, the climate is more pleasant and the animals that had migrated south are beginning to return. In Etosha, families of giraffe, lion and rhino can be seen on safari. Namibia is known for its rich wildlife, and March is a good time to take full advantage. The average temperature in Namibia in March is 28°.
Cape Verde is an archipelago of ten volcanic islands off the west coast of Africa. It has been an independent country since 1975, with its own language and culture. The official language is Portuguese, although most inhabitants speak Crioulo, the Cape Verdean Creole. The islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente are particularly renowned for their spectacular scenery. These are the two islands with the most beautiful hiking trails in the archipelago. The flora and fauna of Cape Verde are also very rich, with the presence of many rare species, such as the Cape Verdean hummingbird, the Cape Verdean gecko and the Cape Verdean butterfly. March is the best time to visit Cape Verde, with temperatures averaging 27°. If you’re looking for an exotic location to make the most of March, Cape Verde is an excellent option.
Are you a romantic by nature? What could be better than heading to the island of love for your March vacation? As the Cypriots will no doubt tell you during your stay in Cyprus, their island is said to be the home of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. Something to bear in mind if you’re traveling as a couple! 😉 The island isn’t very big, which for us is an advantage. So you’ll have plenty of time to explore the whole island in a week. Despite its small size, Cyprus’ nature and landscapes are very varied.
With its sunny coastline and bustling towns, the island of love is ideal for relaxing and enjoying life. The wild mountains and incredible archaeological sites are also a must for lovers of history and culture. The weather is also mild at this time of year. That’s why Cyprus is right at the top of this list of destinations to discover when it comes to where to go in March in the sun.
When we think of somewhere exotic with lush nature, the destination that comes straight to mind is Costa Rica. We’ve never been, but Costa Rica is drawing us in more and more! Costa Rica is a Central American country located between Nicaragua and Panama. It’s a country known for its exceptional biodiversity and tropical beaches. Costa Rica is also renowned for its efforts to promote sustainable development and protect the environment. Much of its territory is protected by national parks and nature reserves.
This destination is ideal for a two-week stay in March. In fact, this is the ideal time of year to discover Costa Rica, as the dry season extends from December to April. With an average temperature of 27° in March, it’s easy to warm up in Costa Rica! We end this selection of destinations to discover where to go in March in the sun with a destination almost unknown to European travelers, Belize. Belize is a small Central American country, located south of Mexico’s Yucatàn Peninsula. It offers a wide variety of landscapes, including the world’s second largest barrier reef! If you like diving, this is the destination for you. Belize boasts exceptional biodiversity. Around a third of the territory is covered by protected parks, tropical forests and even Mayan temples. March is the ideal month to visit Belize, as it falls right in the middle of the dry season, which runs from February to April. Weather-wise, the average air temperature in March is 30°. Count on 27° in the water too, so you can really enjoy it!
