Travelling in Andalusia also means taking the White Villages Route, or Ruta de los Pueblos blancos in Spanish. There are around twenty white villages in Andalusia, and today on our travel blog, we’re sharing our selection of the 7 most beautiful of them. Allow 2 to 3 days to visit them all! Enjoy your visit.
To help you visit Andalusia’s most beautiful white villages, we’re sharing our Google map itinerary as well as our map. If you want to visit these 7 villages, we recommend starting your road trip in Setenil if you’re coming from Malaga, or in Olvera if you’re coming from Seville.
We start our selection of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia with Setenil de las Bodegas. For us, this is THE must-see white village in Andalusia. Located just a 20-minute drive from Ronda, this village stands out from the rest for having troglodyte dwellings carved right into the rock. Come early in the morning to make the most of your walk.
Located 20 minutes from Setenil, the village of Olvera is often considered one of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia. Surrounded by olive groves, the village stands out in particular for its magnificent Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación and its castle. If you’re arriving from Seville, there’s a good chance that Olvera is the first village you’ll discover.
During our trip to Andalusia, we had the opportunity to discover Ronda. World-famous for its bridge, the Puente Nuevo, this white village in Andalusia is a must-see. You’ll love strolling through the narrow streets. Tip: reserve a table on one of the restaurant terraces overlooking the bridge. We’ve included two addresses in our article dedicated to Ronda.
The village of Zahara de la Sierra is a 40-minute drive from Ronda. The village is set around a huge hill, which gives it a special charm. During your visit, don’t miss the panoramic view of the village and Lake El Gastor from the Torre del Homenaje.
A little further afield and located in the heart of the Cadiz region is the white village of Conil de la Frontera. What makes it special is its proximity to a magnificent white sandy beach. The village is located on the Costa de la Luz, and this is immediately obvious. So here you’ll have the chance to stroll around the village’s historic center and then relax on one of Conil’s beaches.
A 45-minute drive from Conil de la Frontera is the Dune de Bolonia. Here you’ll find a magnificent beach with translucent waters and the largest sand dune in Spain. The site is magnificent. Note, however, that the wind blows quite hard here. We’ve added a drone video below so you can get a feel for the beauty of the site!
Mijas is a white village in Andalusia, located in the province of Málaga. Located just 30 minutes from the city, this village is rather touristy. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful village, and a walk through it is a real pleasure. The only drawback is the use of donkeys and horses for tourists. For us, it’s an ordeal to see these animals carrying tourists every day in the heat of Andalusia. We think this practice should be banned.
In the immediate vicinity of Mijas and Malaga lies the Colomares Castle. Allow 15 minutes by car to reach the site. The castle isn’t very well known, but it’s truly magnificent! We really recommend it when you’re in the area. As with Dune de Bolonias, we’ve included a video to give you an idea of just how beautiful it is. We recommend you visit early in the morning, so you can be almost alone! Count 3€ for the entrance and 1 hour on site to tour it.
We end our selection of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia with Frigiliana. Ranked as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, Frigiliana is not to be missed under any circumstances! This hilltop village offers beautiful panoramic views over the region. If you’re looking for an authentic village, you should easily find what you’re looking for in Frigiliana.
While in Andalusia, you will undoubtedly have the opportunity to discover magnificent cities such as Seville, Granada, Ronda and Cordoba. You can find our full itinerary on our dedicated article.
We hope the tips and good addresses on our travel blog will help you visit the white villages of Andalusia in Spain!
